From cave to jail
brief description
High times in Albany. Bonus: surveillance video!story
Hey, a New York State employee is going to jail for goofing off on the job. I know, if every state worker who did that went to jail the prisons would be more crowded than the state unemployment offices….but this guy took it to a whole new level.
While he was on the state payroll (which means our taxes were paying his salary) he did drugs. He slept. He watched TV. And he did it all in a secret hideaway in a state building.
Gary Pivoda, a janitor in Albany, today was sentenced to a year behind bars for his role in the “man cave” case. In November he and his supervisor pleaded guilty to low-level felonies as part of a plea deal. Pivoda goes to jail, the supervisor gets probation, and they have to pay the state back a total of $3,600. Oh, and they both lost their jobs.
The dudes created their hideaway in a state parking garage in Albany. And they got away with it for months! Our friends at the Albany Times Union got this surveillance video of them taking a nap.
They also have videos of the guys smoking, and counting money....check them out here.
